At Premier Wellness Chiropractic in Pasadena, CA, we provide DOT exams for patients who drive commercial vehicles. During the exam, our chiropractor can learn about your overall health and determine if any treatment may be necessary. Before you schedule your appointment, learn more about some commonly asked questions regarding the DOT exam below:

Why do I need a DOT exam?

Whether you’re driving passengers or cargo, there is a lot of trust placed in you. You are responsible for driving safely without putting your life, your passengers’ lives, or the lives of others on the road in danger. Many things, like heart disease, can affect your time behind the wheel. The Department of Transportation requires that your general health be checked to ensure you are capable of driving safely.

Can chiropractors provide a DOT exam?

Any medical professional can provide DOT exams as long as they are listed as a certified medical examiner on the FMCSA National Registry.

How long will a DOT exam take?

In most cases, a DOT exam will take 45 minutes to an hour. However, sometimes you may need additional testing from our chiropractor and you may need to see a specialist before passing the exam.

What is checked during a DOT exam?

DOT exams are similar to regular physicals, however, these examinations go more in-depth. In addition to reviewing your medical history, our chiropractor will check your hearing, vision, mouth, throat, blood pressure, heart, lungs, chest, mental health, and musculoskeletal health.

What happens if I fail my exam?

It depends on the reason you fail. If you fail due to vision, you can go to an eye doctor and get corrective lenses. You can then take another DOT exam and you should pass. Some conditions, like high blood pressure, might require treatment. If you receive treatment that helps lower your blood pressure, you can retake the exam.
